27/02/2007: Community Leaders and Parliament Members Attend PPC Workshop in Ramallah

The workshop, which was organized at the Grand Park Hotel in Ramallh, was attended by 100 community leaders, representatives of Palestinian civil society organizations, Palestinian youth and women activists, PLC members, representatives from the local media bodies, in addition to representatives from the PPC Board of Directors.

Among those who attended the event were: Mr. Abdullah Abdullah, PLC Member and Head of the Political committee, Mr. Qais Abdelkareem, PLC Member and head of Al-Badeel (Alternative Bloc), Mr. Kadoura Fares, Former Minister of Detainees and Deputy Head of the PPC, and Mr. Nidal Fuqaha, General Director of the PPC.

 

 

 

The workshop started with an opening speech by Mr. Nidal Fuqaha, who stressed the importance of “gaining international support for the Palestinian cause as well as the support of the members of the Israeli peace camps, to put pressure on the Israeli government to end its unilateral policies and get back to the negotiations table.”

Mr. Kadoura Fares, Deputy Head of the PPC reiterated the PPC's support for the Mecca Agreement , “as we welcomed the prisoners’ document, which became the basis for the Palestinian national consensus, which is presented in the Palestinian Liberation Organization-PLO".

Mr. Fares also called on the international community to recognize the coming-Palestinian national unity government, stressing that such step “would help in advancing the peace process and strengthen the concept of dialogue.”

Mr. Sam’an Khoury, Head of Peace and Democracy Forum and Member of the PPC’s Board of Directors, spoke about the activities of the PPC in Jerusalem.

The floor was then given to Mr. Mohamad Dweikat, Head of the Dialogue and Democracy Forum, who stated that “We cannot achieve peace without dialogue, because dialogue is the only path to achieve real peace on the internal and external level,”.

Mr. Dweikat also spoke about the previous experience in the joint activities, which were carried out between the PPC and the Dialogue and Peace Forum.
