On Sunday, November 1, the mayor of Rishon Le Zion Mr. Dov Tzur hosted a panel discussion on the Geneva Initiative and the Middle East Peace Process.

1.11.2009

The list of speakers included prominent figures from both sides of the conflict: former PA Minister and senior Fatah member Dr. Sufian Abu Zaida, Minister Yossi Peled (Likud) and Member of Knesset Ophir Pines-Paz (Labor). The discussion was facilitated by Maya Bengal, who is a reporter for Israeli TV (Channel 1) and for one of Israel's leading dailies, Ma'ariv.

During his address, Likud Minister Peled stated that "without a Palestinian state, Israel as a Jewish State is in danger" and that "should there be one bi-national state the Palestinians will outnumber Israelis". Minister Peled also expressed his belief that PM Netanyahu's intentions towards peace are genuine.

The hall was filled to the brim with 100 political activists and position-holders from the Likud, Kadima and Labor parties as well as a number of journalists. The event generated coverage in the print and online media.
