Europe's Message for the US

Europe offers the American government advice over what will, and will not, make for a successful peace plan between Israelis and Palestinians.

Yesterday, eight EU members told the US in unequivocal terms that if the American peace plan isn’t built around a two-state solution based on the 1967 borders, with Jerusalem as the capital of both states, it will fail.

The statement aligns with the key principles of the Geneva Accord and also reflects our strategy on how to engage with the as yet unseen American plan: we want to ensure that this plan moves us forward instead of taking us backwards.

We greatly appreciate these countries’ principled position and their determination in getting the message across. We hope the message spreads not only to government offices in Washington, Jerusalem, and Ramallah, but also to the Israeli and Palestinian publics. We, at the Geneva Initiative, are determined to do so in both our societies.
