"In the current situation there is perhaps only one person who can save the negotiations from a dismal and painful failure that will deteriorate the region to a dangerous crisis for many years. President Peres is the only one who can hold the stick from both ends: his political views with respect to a permanent status agreement are the same as the Geneva Initiative, perhaps the only one agreed to by Palestinians to date. On the other hand, there is no-one who better knows Netanyahu’s stands than him, after many long talks that two have held since the March 2009 elections."
