GI delegation meets with President Abbas in Ramallah

On October 14, a senior Geneva Initiative delegation consisting of Members of Knesset, mayors and activists from Likud, Labor, Kadima and Meretz, met with President Mahmoud Abbas in Ramallah


The Geneva Initiative organized on Sunday, October 14th, a senior delegation of around 30 Israeli members of Knesset, mayors, and political activists from Likud, Kadima, Labor and Meretz, who visited Ramallah to meet with President Mahmoud Abbas. The delegation included new political candidates for the next Knesset and leaders from the Russian-speaking community, Ethiopian community, and other target groups that have previously taken part and continue to be engaged in Geneva Initiative activities.  
President Abbas praised the importance of such dialogue with Israeli senior leaders and highlighted the significance of continued meetings with such a diverse group of leaders. He emphasized how close the two-sides have been in the past to reaching a final-status agreement and said that he would resume negotiations immediately following the vote at the United Nations. With the upcoming elections in Israel, President Abbas noted the opportunity to revive the peace process and furthermore his intention to speak with the people of Israel and show that there is indeed a partner for peace. 
Also participating in the meetings were Secretary- General of the PLO, Yasser Abed Rabbo, Chief negotiator, Saeb Erekat, and Minister of Civil Affairs, Hussein al-Sheikh.
