On May 27, Director-General of the Geneva Initiative Gadi Baltiansky addressed a group of about 25 young political leaders who hold volunteer positions within the Israeli ministry. The volunteers came from across the world to participate in the program, representing countries such as the United States, Hungary, Venezuela, and England.

Gadi Baltiansky briefed the group on the history of negotiations in the Israeli-Palestinian conflict and discussed the principles of the Geneva Initiative. He outlined the different views regarding Israel’s policy alternatives but spoke of the importance of a two-state solution. According to Baltiansky, “the only moral way to achieve a democratic Jewish state is to divide the land”. He stated that time was not on our side for achieving this solution. As negotiations have failed in the past, Baltiansky’s fear is that years from now we will look back and mourn the missed opportunities set out in the Geneva Accord. What sets the Geneva Initiative apart from past negotiations and alternative proposals is its focus on the future. The GI recognizes that the two nations will never agree on one common version of history but can together develop a mutually beneficial vision for the future. Additionally, Baltiansky spoke of the importance of international support and involvement for solving the conflict.
