GI gathering for Russian-speaking leadership of the Negev |
23.01.2010 On Saturday, January 23, the Geneva Initiative held a conference for the Russian-speaking leadership of the Negev. The event was held in Be’er Sheva and dealt with developments in the Israeli-Palestinian process. Speakers at the conference were MK Israel Hasson (Kadima) and GI Co-Architect, Dr. Yossi Belin. The Palestinian perspective was presented by former PA Minister, Ashraf El Ajrami. Dr. Beilin said that “whoever wants to guarantee a Jewish majority but is not willing to pay the price for peace will eventually flee from the West Bank without a non-militarization, without borders, without security arrangements and without recognition of the Jewish people. A unilateral pullout – similar to the one conducted by Sharon, whereas our interest is to reach an agreement with the other side – which is possible to do in as little as three months”.
The event was attended by c.150 Russian-speaking individuals who are affiliated with political parties, with the region’s local leadership councils, journalists and academics.
The event received extensive media coverage on Israel's online and broadcast press outlets. Above and below: GI event in Be'er Sheva for Russian-speaking leadership, speakers included GI Co-Architect Yossi Beilin, MK Israel Hasson (Kadima) and former PA Minister Ashraf El Ajrami
