GI holds event in Tel Aviv for 240 Russian community leaders |
On Saturday, October 11th, Geneva Initiative held a mass conference in Tel Aviv for leading members of Israel's Russian-speaking constituency, which comprises about 1,000,000 Israeli citizens, the majority of who are traditionally right-leaning in their political views.
Some 240 leaders attended the conference, held at the Tzavta theatre, with audience members arriving from Ofakim, Be'er Sheva, Netanya, Ramat Gan, Holon, and other cities across Israel. The conference's program included an introduction on the Geneva Initiative, the Geneva Accord, and the organizations current work by GI representative Elad Dunayevsky. Next, participants heard comments by GI co-architect Yossi Beilin on the current political situation and the current state of the conflict. Beilin's remarks raised much interest and provoked many questions from the audience.
Next, former Palestinian Minister Sufyan Abu-Zeideh presented a Palestinian perspective on the conflict and the political process and responded to the many questions coming from the audience.
