23/09/2008: GI holds Rosh Hashana toast for steering committee members and Israeli activists ranging from Shinui to Shas
Date: 23.09.08

On the afternoon of Tuesday, September 23rd, Geneva Initiative hosted a Rosh Hashana (the Jewish new year) toast with some 20 young Israelis who had participated in past Geneva Initiative activities. At the gathering, the activists met with senior Geneva Initiative steering committee members.

The steering committee members present were Geneva Initiative co-architect Yossi Beilin, MK Avshalom Vilan, Col. (Ret.) Shaul Arieli, former MK Eti Livni, Dr. Menachem Klein, Geneva Initiative Director General Gadi Baltiansky, and Geneva Initiative Chairman of the Board Boaz Karni. Other participants included journalists, party activists, parliamentary assistants, Ultra-Orthodox community leaders, Russian community leaders, women's leadership, and more. Participants hailed from across the political spectrum. Baltiansky commented that only as a GI event could representatives from the Shas Ultra-Orthodox party and the Shinui party, which opposes Haredi influence on politics, meet for a cordial toast.

Baltiansky welcome everyone and thanked the activists for their cooperation with Geneva Initiative and for their important work in helping to get information to key publics. He introduced each of the steering committee members and prompted the activists to introduce themselves and their affiliation.

Subsequently, each of the steering committee members spoke to the guests, shared a new year's blessing, and spoke of the importance of getting information to the public for the sake of advancing a peace agreement. Following their statements, everyone toasted the new year, wishing it to be a year of peace.
