The event was part of the "Peace at Home" project involving representatives from several national Islamic groups and political figures, amongst others.

 

The speakers included Dr. Faisel Abu Shahla, head of the general supervision and human rights committee in the parliament; Dr. Ahmad Yusuf, former political adviser to Ismail Haniyya; Dr. Ibrahim Ibrash, writer and political commentator; and Walid al-O'd, member of the political office of the Palestinian Peoples' Party.

 

The speakers addressed the need to end the internal division within Palestine and stressed the importance of reconciliation as means for unification. The speakers emphasized the need to adopt a clear strategy to strengthen national unity which will enable them to cope with the current challenges facing the region, furthering the peace process and a Palestinian state.
