Each year since 1995, the General Assembly of the United Nations requests the United Nations Department of Public Information to conduct a special information program on the Question of Palestine, which includes giving assistance to the Palestinian people in the field of media development through a training program for Palestinian broadcasters and journalists.

This year’s ten trainee journalists spent four weeks at the UN Headquarters in New York, one week in Washington, D.C. and one week in Geneva. During the training they met with senior officials of UN offices and agencies, listened to various presentations and visited major media outlets.

Geneva Initiative representative in Switzerland, Mr. Peter Kung, briefed the group at the UN in Geneva on the status of the Geneva Initiative in the context of the current state of affairs in the Middle East. The discussion also touched upon the importance of negotiations and a two-state solution as means of solving the conflict.
