GI seminar for young journalists at Ma'aleh Hahamisha

9-10/08/2007: GI seminar for young journalists at Ma'aleh Hahamisha
Date: 09.08.07

On August 9th-10th, the Geneva Initiative together with the Konrad Adenauer Foundation held a seminar for young Israeli journalists (editors, commentators and field reporters) from the different Israeli press channels (broadcast, print and online) at the Ma'aleh Hahamisha hotel near Jerusalem.

The seminar kicked off with a tour along the path of the separation fence in the Jerusalem envelope, guided by Geneva Initiative representative Colonel (Res.) Shaul Arieli. The tour stopped at a number of different places with viewpoints to the proposed route and presented the advantages of the route offered in the Geneva Accord.

The seminar included a panel with GI Co-Architect MK Yossi Beilin and Palestinian Minister of Prisoners Affairs, Youth and Sport Ashraf al-Ajrami.

During the seminar participants also received lectures by Gadi Baltiansky, Director-General of the Geneva Initiative Tel Aviv Office and the former media advisor to Prime Minister Ehud Barak; Izhar Be'er GM of "Keshev"; and Ata al-Kimri, an Al-Quds journalist and director of al-Masdar.

The different lectures and speakers focused mainly on media-government relations and on the alternatives proposed to solving the conflict. From Ashraf al-Ajrami, the Israeli participants received a first-hand account of the conflict from a Palestinian perspective.
