Date: 31.05.06
Israeli public inclined towards negotiated moves.

A new poll by New Wave Research, commissioned by the Geneva Initiative-Israel, indicates a strong preference within the Israeli public for negotiated -- as opposed to unilateral -- moves at this time. 68.2% supported negotiations with Mahmoud Abbas, with 26.7% opposed. 58.6% supported negotiating with the PA as the next step for the Israeli government, as opposed to 20.0% favoring unilateral withdrawal. Approximately half of the public supports a process by which any agreement with Abu Mazen (Abbas) is then put to a referendum on the Palestinian side with 38.7% opposing. The poll also found support for the Geneva Initiative steadily increasing.
