A public opinion poll conducted by An-Najah University on May 15th-17th, 2008, and published in Al-Quds on May 20th, 2008, found a majority of Palestinians still support the political negotiations underway with Israel, despite recent confrontations in the Gaza Strip. According to the poll, 56.5% of Palestinians support the current negotiations with Israel. 68.5% of the Palestinian public, over two thirds, support the establishment of a Palestinian state on territories occupied in 1967. Additionally, the poll found 71.5% of Palestinians are in favor of signing a ceasefire agreement with Israel that would first take affect in the Gaza Strip and later expand to include the West Bank. Similarly, 72.2% support the position of the Palestinian factions who call for a ceasefire agreement to be signed and implemented in the above gradual manner. 59.4% of those polled rated the current Palestinian presidency, which is conducting the negotiations with Israel, as "good."
