One State or the Two State Solution? Seminar for Ethiopian Israelis |
The event drew public opinion leaders among the Ethiopian community to discuss the subject, "One State or the Two State Solution? Israel and the Palestinians the road to decisions." The seminar took place at Kfar Maccabiah Hotel in Ramat Gan, and began with a tour of Jerusalem barrier route by Gen. (Ret.) Ilan Paz, former head of the Civil Administration in Judea and Samaria and the Jordan Valley. The Tour included Neve Samuel observation point, a look-out onto Maale Adumim to the east from Mount Scopus, and a view of the Holy Basin from the Mount of Olives, as well as the separation wall in Abu Dis. MK Shlomo Molla (Kadima) and Adina Bar Shalom, Chairwoman of the Haredi College in Jerusalem, addresed the group, followed by a talk on "Key issues in the Israeli-Palestinian conflict" delivered by Col. (res.) Shaul Arieli, former Gaza Brigade Commander, Deputy Military Secretary of the Defense Minister, and head of negotiations during the Barak government. In the evening there was discussion with participants featuring dialogue led by MK Shlomo Molla . On the second day of the seminar Dr. Sufian Abu Zaida, a senior member of Fatah and former Minister of Prisoner Affairs in the Palestinian Authority discussed "the conflict from the Palestinian perspective." Then, attorney Talia Sasson, author of the report on the outposts and board member of the Council for Peace and Security gave an update on the situation with settlements and outposts; MK Orit Zuaretz (Kadima) addressed civil society participation and influence on the political process; and journalist Maya Bengal of Maariv discussed Israel's political scene. Gadi Baltiansky, head of H.L. Education for Peace (the Geneva Initiative), former spokesperson for Prime Minister Ehud Barak lead a conversation on "possible solutions to the conflict."
