A new poll conducted by the International Peace Institute shows majority support among Palestinians for a two-state peace plan. Almost two-thirds (64%) preferred the plan, based on proposals from post-Camp David negotiations at Taba in 2001 and informal Israeli-Palestinian talks in Geneva in 2003.
Popularity of Abbas and Fateh increases and the popularity of Haniyeh and Hamas decreases; perception of personal and family security and safety increases and perception of corruption in PA institutions decreases. However, the Palestinian public remains pessimistic about the future of reconciliation.
A recent poll conducted by the Arab World for Research and Development (AWRAD) found that Palestinians have greater satisfaction with the West Bank government than with the Gaza government and public opinion is divided over the newly appointed government in the West Bank. The poll also assessed the popularity of candidates in two-way elections.
Despite the high support for negotiations, most Palestinians were found to be pessimistic about the future. The poll also found majority support for the current ceasefire between Hamas and Israel.
The Palestinian public opinion poll indicates most Palestinians support the roadmap, the Saudi Initiative, and mutual recognition of Israel and the state for the Jewish people and Palestine as the state for the Palestinian people.
