Post Election Briefing for Foreign Diplomats

On May 11th the Geneva Initiative held a breifing for over thirty foreign diplomats based in Israel with G.I. Chairman, Yossi Beilin
The diplomats included ambassadors, Deputy Heads of Mission from and political counsellors from the US, EU, UK, Germany, France, Switzerland, Austria, Belgium, Finland, Netherlands, Sweden, Denmark, Norway, Malta, Croatia, Bosnia, India, Japan, Chile, Canada and Australia.

"We cannot give up. We cannot be frozen because of the results of an election. A UN Security Council Resolution sends the message that this issue is still very much on the international agenda and the world is committed to it." - said Geneva Initiative Chairman Yossi Beilin to the six Ambassadors and over 30 diplomatic representatives who attended a diplomatic briefing held at the Geneva Initiative offices in Tel Aviv today.

Beilin (former Minister of Justice and Deputy Foreign Minister) and GI Director General-Israel Gadi Baltiansky discussed the results of the recent Israeli election and the critical role of the international community in pushing forward with the peace process.

Baltiansky noted that a major reason PM Netanyhau was re-elected was because he presented an agenda on security issues, and was the only one to do so. At the end of the day, Israelis speak about economics but vote on security. He added that a majority of the members of the current Knesset support the two state solution, with nine Members having particpated in in-depth Geneva Initiative training.
