The PPC/GI organized a workshop about "The role of the media in promoting national Unity and civic peace", the workshop took place in Gaza strip, and was attendant by 75 civil society representatives, in addition to university student, journalists and media experts.

Among the speakers was Dr. Ahmad Hammad from Al-Aqsa University, Mr. Imad Alfranji the ecexutive director of the local channel "Alqudes", Mr Ahmad Odeh from " Ma'an News Agency", the journalist Ahmad Jad from Al-Ayam newspaper and Mr.Saleh almasri, the director of Al-Qudes Radio.

The participants have stressed several important points, including:

• The role of the media in ending the current division, by supporting the idea of national unity and by promoting a peaceful dialogue.

• Criticism of the local media and the Arabic international news channels, emphasizing that both medias did not work properly in decreasing the tension and ending the political division from which  Palestinians suffer.

• The participants emphasized that the media can play a role equal to the role of politicians in promoting the issue of national unity and reconciliation.

This workshop is part of the Spanish project funded by the Spanish cooperation office; the project aims at spreading the culture of peace, negotiations, dialogue, tolerance and exeptance of the other among Palestinian youth.
