Seminar for Elected Position-holders on Israeli City Councils

On December 23-24, the Geneva Initiative held a two-day seminar for mayors and senior elected officials on Israeli city councils.

The seminar was held at Kfar Hamaccabia in Ramat Gan. Nine Israeli mayors and heads of regional councils participated in the event, including three Arab mayors--from Shfara'am, Abu Gosh, and Kalaswa, respectively.

The seminar included a panel with Members of Knesset, including MK Daniel Ben Simon (Labor), MK Shlomo Molla (Kadima), and MK Nino Abseadze (Kadima). GI's Israel Director General, Gadi Baltiansky, also addressed the group.

Col. (Res.) Shaul Arieli led a tour illustrating the potential border solution proposed under the Geneva Initiative model. The tour was designed to illustrate the amount of resources expended on security and the barrier which could otherwise be directed to local and regional authorities and municipalities.

In parallel with the event, GI hosted a separate seminar in the same venue for veteran Israelis, new immigrants from the Ethiopian community, and the Russian-speaking community. Some of the sessions were joint to both seminars.

GI's Israel Director General Gadi Baltiansky addresses the participants.

Participants included mayors and heads of city councils in Israel.
