Seminar for Shas Party Leaders Attended by Senior Palestinians

On June 1, The Geneva Initiative hosted a seminar for Shas Party leaders attended by senior Palestinians, including former officials.

The event follows a joint seminar for Shas Knesset members and senior Palestinians hosted by the Geneva Initiative two months ago. For two days, participants learned about Geneva Initiative solutions to the conflict, and met with Knesset members and former senior Palestinian officials for in depth discussions on the core issues and events on the current political agenda.

The Head of the Geneva Initiative Israel opened the two day event, entitled, "September: Israel and the Palestinians, opportunities and risks," with a conversation on possible solutions to the conflict.

Brigadier General (Res.) Shaul Arieli, former Gaza Brigade Commander and Deputy Military Secretary of the Defense Minister, lectured on the core issues and led participants on a unique tour illustrating the route of the separation fence in Jerusalem, and including observation points at Nebi Samuel, Mt. Scopus, and the Temple Mount and Western Wall.

Shas MKs David Azoulay and Avraham Michaeli and Jerusalem City Council Member Chair David Glass led a conversation on impressions and lessons from the previous joint Israeli-Palestinian seminar in Prague.

Mr. Ashraf Al Ajami, former Minister for Prisoner Affairs in the Palestinian Authority from 2007-2009, addressed the group, offering a Palestinian perspective on current events.

The two-day event concluded with a panel of MKs from the right and left, entitled "Peace and the peace process: Shas's vision."
