Seminar for young media figures

8-9/02/2007: Seminar for young media figures
Date: 08.02.07

On February 8th-9th, 2007, the Geneva Initiative together with the Konrad Adenauer Foundation held a seminar for young Israeli media figures (editors, commentators and field reporters) from the different Israeli press channels (broadcast, print and online).

The seminar kicked off with a tour along the path of the separation fence in the Jerusalem envelope, guided by Geneva Initiative representative Colonel (Res.) Shaul Arieli. The tour stopped at a number of different places with viewpoints to the proposed route and presented the advantages of the route offered in the Geneva Accord.

During the seminar participants received lectures by Gadi Baltiansky, Director-General of the Geneva Initiative Tel Aviv Office and the former media advisor to Prime Minister Ehud Barak; Kadoura Fares, Former Minister in the PA; Izhar Be'er GM of "Keshev"; Ruham Nimri a Palestinian media researcher in "Miftah" (both organizations deal with the media coverage of the conflict) and MK Dr. Yossi Beilin, Chairman of the Meretz-Yahad Party.

The different lectures and speakers focused mainly on media-government relations and on the alternatives proposed to solving the conflict. From Kadoura Fares, the Israeli participants received a first-hand account of the conflict from a Palestinian perspective.
