Yasser Abed Rabbo Calls for International Conference

PLO Secretary General Yasser Abed Rabbo called for the convening of an international conference to create a framwork that would lead to two states, Palestine and Israel, living side by side based on the 1967 borders.
Abed Rabbo said: "The American administration is currently not making any effort to promote negotiations."

Abed Rabbo made the comments during an interview with the Palestinian Broadcasting Corporation in Ramallah on 26 May. Abed Rabbo stated that: “The main questions now are whether Israel is actually ready to commit itself to the two-state solution and to a border based on the 1967 lines; whether Israel is willing to seriously make a commitment to the international community and work under the supervision of an international body; whether they will do so within the framework of an international conference to end the occupation within a predetermined period, and to withdraw from Palestinian occupied land."

Abed Rabbo added that "we should give up language calling for a return to peace talks devoid of meaning, which we have tried in the past.” He called for an international conference on a limited scale that would bring together the UN Security Council permanent member states, the EU, Arab countries and other globally influential states. The conference would work on creating a framework to supervise a solution that would lead to two states, Palestine and Israel, living side by side based on the 1967 borders.

Abed Rabbo suggested that the conference should include: “15 states that will work together on a solution that will put an end to the Israeli occupation of the Palestinian territories and all other steps as stipulated in the Arab Peace Initiative.”
